PHOENIX, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Miguel Montero hit a three-run homer in the first inning Wednesday and Arizona held on for its ninth straight win, a 4-2 decision over Colorado.
The first-place Diamondbacks remained six games in front of defending World Series champion San Francisco in the National League West.
Montero's homer, his 14th, came after Willie Bloomquist had singled and Justin Upton had been hit by a pitch.
Arizona starter Josh Collmenter (9-8) gave up an RBI single to Eliezer Alfonzo in the second and a homer to Dexter Fowler in the third, but blanked the Rockies the rest of the way through sixth innings. J.J. Putz worked the ninth for his 35th save.
The loss went to Esmil Rogers (6-4), who allowed all four runs Arizona on seven hits in six innings.
