CLEVELAND, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Carlos Santana and Jack Hannahan each blasted sixth-inning homers Tuesday and the Cleveland Indians bested Oakland 6-2.
With the Tribe clinging to a 2-1 lead in the sixth, Jim Thome drew a one-out walk from Trevor Cahill (9-13) and Santana followed by blasting an 0-1 pitch into the right field stands. Cahill then hit Shelley Duncan with a pitch and Fautino De Los Santos entered the game, only to be greeted by Hannahan's deep fly to right that just cleared the fence for another two-run homer.
Hannahan finished 3-for-4 and Kosuke Fukudome drove in a pair for the Indians, who remained 5 1/2 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central.
Jeanmar Gomez (1-2) yielded only one unearned run over six innings, allowing six hits, walking one and fanning four to earn the victory.
Cahill gave up five runs on seven hits before his sixth-inning exit.
Kurt Suzuki went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the A's.
