SAN FRANCISCO, July 24 (UPI) -- Madison Bumgarner held Milwaukee to one run over 7 2/3 innings Sunday and San Francisco's bullpen did the rest in the Giants' 2-1 win over the Brewers.
Bumgarner (6-9) won despite little run support, allowing eight hits while walking none and striking out eight. He was aided by a pair of Giants double plays.
Sergio Romo got the final out in the eighth inning and Brian Wilson collected his 31st save with a 1-2-3 ninth for the first-place Giants, who won the three-game series with the Brewers.
Mike Fontenot's sacrifice fly in the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the decisive run.
Milwaukee's Yovani Gallardo (11-7) was the hard-luck loser, allowing only two runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings while fanning five.
Ryan Braun clouted a solo homer for the Brewers' only run.
