MLB: New York Yankees 7, Baltimore 4

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- A three-run home run by Alex Rodriguez helped send New York to a seven-run lead Wednesday and the Yankees held on to down Baltimore 7-4.

The home run by Rodriguez came in the first inning and Robinson Cano highlighted a three-run second with a two-run double. Jorge Posada hit a solo shot in the fifth to give New York a 7-0 cushion.

New York starter A.J. Burnett took a shutout into the seventh but then gave up two-run homers to Matt Wieters and Brian Roberts.

Burnett (3-0) eventually allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out five. Mariano Rivera threw 17 pitches during a perfect ninth to collect his fifth save.

Baltimore's Chris Tillman (0-1) gave up six runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings.
