NEW YORK, March 31 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson broke a tie with a seventh-inning home run Thursday that sent the New York Yankees off to a 6-3 win over Detroit in the teams' season opener.
Granderson connected off Tigers reliever Phil Coke (0-1) to break a 3-3 tie. The Yankees added a run without a hit in the inning when Russell Martin reached first on an error, advanced on a sacrifice, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a Derek Jeter sacrifice fly.
