NBA: Golden State 96, Charlotte 95

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Monta Ellis gave Golden State a six-point advantage with 1:16 to play Friday and the Warriors, despite not scoring another point, still beat Charlotte 96-95.

Golden State won for the fourth time in five games but had to survive a missed 3-point attempt by Stephen Jackson at the buzzer.

After Boris Diaw brought Charlotte within a point with 16 seconds to go on a layup, Ellis almost cost the Warriors the game by being called for an offensive foul with 9 seconds left. That gave the Bobcats plenty of time to set up a potential winning play but Jackson's miss left Charlotte empty-handed in its bid to pick up the 200th victory in franchise history.

Golden State played the second contest in a five-game road trip which began with a loss in Atlanta Wednesday.

Ellis scored 25 points and Stephen Curry had 24 for the Warriors, who won for just the fifth time in 18 road games this season.

Jackson led the way for Charlotte with 22 points.
