NEW YORK, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Calgary left wing Rene Bourque was selected for the top NHL player award after leading the league in goals for last week, the NHL said Monday.

He scored twice in the first period of a game against San Jose Sunday, two days after he had a hat trick versus Columbus.

Each Monday, the NHL selects three stars of the week. In addition to Bourque, the league singled out St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak as the second star and Tampa Bay center Steven Stamkos as the third for games played last week.

Halak went 2-0-1 with one of the wins a shutout. He allowed 1.62 goals and saved 94.4 percent of the shots he faced.

Stamkos led the NHL in points for the week, totaling four goals and five assists in four games.
