MLB: Toronto 6, Minnesota 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Edwin Encarnacion finished off a four-run eighth Friday that vaulted the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 victory over Minnesota.

Encarnacion, who hit two of Toronto's six homers against the Twins Thursday, had three hits and four RBI. Toronto produced 13 hits, including three each from John Buck and Lyle Overbay.

Ricky Romero (14-9) gave up two runs on six hits in eight innings, sending the Blue Jays to their eighth win in nine games.

The Twins continued their late-season slump en route to the playoffs, losing for the seventh time in eight games. Minnesota will begin a division round playoff series Wednesday against the American League's wild-card team -- either the New York Yankees or Tampa Bay.

Jesse Crain (1-1) took the mound to start the Toronto eighth in a tie game and promptly walked Vernon Wells. Overbay singled Wells to second, after which Crain retired the next two batters.

Buck, however, singled in Wells and Encarnacion followed with his 19th homer.

Jason Frasor gave up a home run in the ninth and put two other runners on base before Kevin Gregg came on to get the final out for his 37th save.
