LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Miguel Tejada gave San Diego the lead with a two-run homer Wednesday and San Diego regained the NL Western Division lead by downing the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1.
The Padres moved a half game in front of San Francisco after the Giants suffered a 2-0 setback to the Chicago Cubs earlier Wednesday.
San Diego trailed 1-0 heading into the third but Chase Headley singled to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice by pitcher Tim Stauffer.
After Aaron Cunningham struck out, David Eckstein beat out an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error by shortstop Rafael Furcal. Headley came around to score on the play, tying the game, and Tejada followed with a homer to left.
Stauffer (5-4) and the San Diego bullpen took over from there.
Stauffer got the win by allowing a lone run on three hits in six innings. Luke Gregerson turned in a perfect seventh, Mike Adams worked around a walk in the eighth and Heath Bell came on in the ninth for his 43rd save.
Ted Lilly (8-12) gave up the third-inning runs to take the loss.
