TORONTO, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Jose Bautista ignited a four-run, ninth-inning rally with a home run Thursday, powering the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.
With Boston ahead 5-2, Bautista connected for his major-league leading 36th home run to open the ninth. Then Adam Lind and Edwin Encarnacion drove in runs before Fred Lewis ended the game with a sacrifice fly.
Jonathan Papelbon (4-5), who relieved John Lackey after Bautista's home run, was charged with four hits, a walk and three runs in taking the loss. Kevin Gregg (1-4) pitched one inning and got the win.
Vernon Well greeted Papelbon with a double and scored on Lind's hit. DeWayne Wise ran for Lind and stole second. He went to third on an Aaron Hill base hit. Encarnacion's double went to left and scored Wise, tying the score.
Lyle Overbay was intentionally walked to load the bases but Lewis delivered the fly ball that got the final run in.
Boston built a 5-2 lead in two two-run rallies, with David Ortiz driving in one of the runs in the third and he and Jed Lowrie adding home runs in the fifth. Jarrod Saltalamacchia doubled ahead of a Darnell McDonald triple in the eighth for the final Red Sox run.
Toronto got single runs in the fourth and sixth, with both runs scoring on double plays.
