PARIS, May 27 (UPI) -- Andy Murray and Andy Roddick each needed four sets before finishing off second-round wins Thursday at the French Open in Paris.

Rain played havoc on the tournament schedule with No. 2-seeded Rafael Nadal among players having second-round matches postponed to Friday.

Murray, the No. 4 seed, was actually finishing a match he started Wednesday, finally prevailing 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2 over Juan Ignacio Chela. Murray amassed 75 winners and seven service breaks but he also had 46 unforced errors -- 15 in losing the second set.

Roddick, seeded No. 6, also lost the second set in beating Blaz Kavcic 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. He had his serve broken seven times but countered by winning half of the points on Kavcic's serve and getting 10 breaks of his own.

Four sets were the rule of the day as four of the six matches completed Thursday went that far. One exception was unseeded Teimuraz Gabashvili's 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 rout of Grega Zemlja.

No. 13-seeded Gael Monfils, the French favorite, had the other exception losing a 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, 9-7 marathon to Fabio Fognini. The match was a completion of a Wednesday match that was stopped with the fifth set tied at 5-5.
