NHL: Carolina 5, Boston 1

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Jussi Jokinen had a goal and two assists and Cam Ward blocked 27 shots Sunday, pacing a 5-1 Carolina win over Boston -- the Bruins' fifth straight defeat.

Jokinen was involved in Carolina's first three goals. He assisted on goals by Ray Whitney and Eric Staal and then scored 6 1/2 minutes into the second period.

Brandon Sutter and Chad Larose notched goals to send the Hurricanes ahead 5-0 before Boston finally scored on a shot by David Krejci 9 minutes into the third.

Tim Thomas made 13 saves for the Bruins.
