CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi allowed only a second-period goal Thursday and made 19 saves in leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-1 victory over Calgary.

The Flames lost their sixth consecutive game, the team's longest losing streak in seven seasons.

Niemi, although he remains a backup to Cristobal Huet, improved his record to 13-3-1 and has allowed less than two goals a game.

Jamie Lundmark scored against Niemi with 1:29 left in the second period to tie it at 1-1 but Ben Eager and Duncan Keith produced third-period goals. Chicago increased its lead over Nashville in the Central Division to 13 points.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 25 saves in the loss.
