NHL: Phoenix 5, Edmonton 4 (OT)

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Shane Doan scored a power-play goal in overtime Tuesday to give the Phoenix Coyotes a 5-4 win over Edmonton.

Doan, who also scored in regulation, scored 1:37 into overtime and handed the Oilers their ninth defeat in their last 11 games.

The Coyotes, who have earned a point in nine of their last 11 games, also had goals from Radim Vrbata, Martin Hanzal and Petr Prucha. Ilya Bryzgalov made 38 saves.

Jeff Deslauriers faced 30 shots in the Edmonton goal. Dustin Penner, Gilbert Brule, Denis Grebeshkov and Patrick O'Sullivan scored for the Oilers.

Edmonton fell behind 4-2 after two periods but rallied to tie the contest on goals by Grebeshkov at 8:10 and Penner at 8:59.

After Fernando Pisani was sent to the box for tripping 49 seconds into overtime, Doan ended the game with a slapshot that whistled past two defenders and Deslauriers.
