MLB: New York Yankees 7, Oakland 2

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 19 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia struck out seven over eight innings Tuesday to lead the New York Yankees past the Oakland Athletics 7-2.

Sabathia (14-7) limited the home team to two runs on five hits and one walk. He has given up just three runs in his last three starts.

Jorge Posada drove in two runs for the Yankees and Derek Jeter collected three hits for the third consecutive game.

A five-run sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie and put the Yankees in control.

Jay Marshall (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits in just 1/3 inning of relief.

Kurt Suzuki and Tommy Everidge hit solo home runs for the A's, who have lost three of their last five.

Starter Vin Mazzaro gave up two runs on six hits in five innings.
