NHL: Atlanta 4, Vancouver 3 (SO)

ATLANTA, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Atlanta's Erik Christensen scored the game-winner Friday in the Thrashers' 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver.

The Thrashers won the shootout, 2-1, with Slava Kozlov scoring their other goal. Pavol Demitra scored Vancouver's lone shootout goal.

Regulation and the overtime ended in a 3-3 tie.

Atlanta was led by Ilya Kovalchuk's goal and assist.

Joey Crabb (shorthanded) and Kozlov also scored once apiece, while Kari Lehtonen was credited with 35 saves on 38 shots for the Thrashers, who broke a four-game losing streak.

Vancouver got two goals from Henrik Sedin and one from his twin brother, Daniel, who created the overtime with his 19th at 11:16 of the third.

The Sedins combined for six points, with Henrik adding one assist and Daniel adding two assists.

Jason LaBarbera was beaten on Christensen's game-winner after yielding three goals on 37 shots before the shootout for the Canucks, who have lost four of six.
