NHL: Toronto 5, N.Y. Rangers 2

TORONTO, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Center John Mitchell score twice in a five-goal third period Saturday night, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers.

Toronto trailed 2-0 after the first two periods but scored five times in a span of 5:21 in the final period.

Jason Blake, Pavel Kubina and Dominic Moore also scored. Blake and Moore both recorded one assist each, and goalie Vesa Toskala made 18 saves on 20 shots for the Maple Leafs, who won for the fourth time in five games.

New York's goals were scored by Ryan Callahan in the first period and Blair Betts in the second.

Goaltender Stephen Valiquette gave up five goals on 17 shots in the final period and finished the night with 30 saves on 35 shots for the Rangers, whose four-game winning streak was broken.

It was the second meeting between the teams in the new season.

The Rangers won a 1-0 shootout Oct. 17.
