NEW YORK, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Witnesses say a New York real estate executive bid $400,000 to win the two best Jets seats at the NFL team's new Meadowlands football stadium.
The anonymous mortgage mogul ponied up the one-time fee at a party with by Jets owner Woody Johnson, the New York Post reported Sunday, noting the winner still must pay another $14,000 a year for the actual tickets that will put him front row at the 50-yard line directly behind the team bench.
Public bidding for the Jets' 2,000 "personal seat licenses" began Sunday with the best two spots offered Thursday night at Johnson's party at the Four Seasons, attended by Jets legends Joe Namath and Curtis Martin, the Post reported.
The $400,000 bid broke the previous $150,000 record for licenses for the best two seats in the Dallas Cowboy's new stadium, the Post reported.
The Jets' licensed seats come with a separate entrance to the stadium, a parking space, and the right to step onto the field behind the Jets bench during games and attend post-game news conferences, the Post reported.
