ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Josh Hamilton and Marlon Byrd homered Sunday to help the Texas Rangers edge the LA Angels 4-3.
Hamilton's 30th homer this season was a solo shot with two outs in the top of the first and Byrd's 10th homer was a two-run shot in the second.
Joaquin Arias added one RBI and Byrd was one of three players with two hits for the Rangers, who had lost 8 of 12 in the season series.
Winning pitcher Kevin Millwood (9-7) allowed two earned runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.
Frank Francisco recorded the last four outs to record his second save.
LA got Juan Rivera's second-inning, two-run homer and Mark Texiera's eighth-inning, RBI single.
Brandon Wood had three hits and Texeira two for the American League West-leading Angels, who were bidding for a four-game sweep.
Losing pitcher John Lackey (11-3) surrendered four earned runs and nine hits in five innings with one walk and five strikeouts.
