GREENSBORO, N.C., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Carl Pettersen led the PGA's rain-plagued Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, N.C., by three strokes Friday after a 9-under-par 61 in the second round.

Pettersen's halfway total, 15-under 125, matched the PGA Tour record for lowest opening 36 holes. He joined Tiger Woods, Mark Calcavecchia, Tom Lehman and Corey Pavin in that category.

The second, third and fourth-place players all shot 6-under 64. Garrett Wills was in second at 12-under, Scott McCarron third at 11-under and Kevin Streelman fourth at minus-10.

"I got off to such a good start," said Pettersen, a former North Carolina State star and a 1966 graduate of Greensboro Grimsley High School. "I birdied the first three. As soon as I did that my mind kind of set in and played nice all day, made a lot of putts, hit it close."

Defending champion Brandt Snedeker (68) was 6-under, nine strokes back of the leader.

Among players missing the cut were Chris Riley, Will Mackenzie, Olin Browne and Larry Mize.
