DETROIT, July 25 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox, down to their last out, got a two-run homer from Jermaine Dye Friday to rally past Detroit 6-5.
Carlos Guillen gave the Tigers a 5-4 lead with a solo homer in the seventh and that was still the score when Todd Jones (4-1) came on in the ninth in an attempt to record his 19th save. Instead, he suffered his first loss of the season.
Jones quickly got two outs, but then gave up a single to Carlos Quentin. Dye worked the count to 2-0 before hitting a home run to right, his 22nd of the season.
Bobby Jenks then retired Detroit in order in the ninth to seal the win and pick up his 20th save of the season. The victory went to D.J. Carrasco (1-0), who recorded the final two outs in the eighth.
Detroit had won its previous four games and appeared ready to make up ground on the division-leading White Sox. Instead, the Tigers fell 6 1/2 games off the lead in third place.
