Davenport among second-round winners

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla., April 9 (UPI) -- Anna Chakvetadze, Amelie Mauresmo and Lindsay Davenport were second-round winners Wednesday at the Bausch & Lomb Championships.

Chakvetadze, seeded second, delivered a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ayumi Morita at Amelia Island Plantation. Mauresmo, the 11th seed and the winner of this tournament seven years ago, defeated Sorana Cirstea 7-5, 6-1.

Davenport, who won here in 1997, 2004 and 2005, was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Jill Craybas.

The day's biggest surprise came when qualifier Karolina Sprem ousted third-seeded Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Fifth-seeded Elena Vesnina was also defeated by Patty Schnyder 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Other second-round winners included Dinara Safina, Agnieszka Radwanska, Alona Bondarenko, Katarina Srebotnik and Dominika Cibulkova.
