MLB: Cincinnati 8, Philadelphia 2

CINCINNATI, April 6 (UPI) -- Edinson Volquez, making his National League debut, yielded one earned run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings Sunday and Cincinnati belted Philadelphia 8-2.

Volquez (1-0), a right-hander acquired in an off-season trade with Texas, walked two batters and struck out eight. He threw 58 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

He got home runs from Ken Griffey Jr. (a two-run blast in the first) and Jeff Keppinger (a solo shot in the third).

Keppinger finished with three hits, three runs and three RBI. Griffey had two runs, two hits and two RBI. Corey Patterson (two hits) and Adam Dunn drove in a run apiece and one run scored on Edwin Encarnacion's double play groundout in the sixth.

Philadelphia's Pat Burrell and Jimmy Rollins drove in one run each. Burrell and Chase Utley both had two hits.

Losing pitcher Brett Myers (0-1) gave up four earned runs on eight hits in five innings.
