HUMBLE, Texas, April 4 (UPI) -- Johnson Wagner, seeking a breakthrough showing this week on the PGA Tour, seized a three-shot lead Friday in the second round of the Houston Open.
A weather delay prevented 36 players from completing their rounds before dark at the Redstone Golf Club.
Wagner, who in 43 Tour appearances has had just two top-10 finishes, shot a 3-under 69 Friday to stand at 12-under 132 for 36 holes.
Mathew Goggin and Charley Hoffman shared second at 135 and Chad Campbell was alone in fourth at 137. The only player on the course who could impact the leaderboard was Nicholas Thompson, who was 6-under with five holes left.
Phil Mickelson, playing this week to tune up his game for next week's Masters, fired a 68 and shared 11th place at 140.
John Daly, on his way to missing the cut, withdrew with two holes left in his second round. He told PGA Tour officials he had injured his back.
Daly has had a poor start to the season, during which he has been disqualified from the Arnold Palmer Invitational for missing his pro-am tee time and dropped as a pupil by his swing coach Butch Harmon.
