NHL: Boston 5, Atlanta 3

ATLANTA, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Rookie Milan Lucic put Boston in front with 3:47 left in the third period Wednesday and the Bruins went on to down Atlanta 5-3.

Boston won its third straight, getting 23 saves from Alexander Auld.

Auld was obtained recently from Phoenix to fill in for Tim Thomas, who is out with a groin pull, and backup Manny Fernandez, who is suffering from a herniated disc. Auld started his third game for Boston and he has won them all.

Mark Recchi, making his Atlanta debut after being obtained on waivers from Pittsburgh last weekend, had two goals.

Atlanta scored three times in a six-minute stretch of the second period to take a 3-2 lead. Glen Murray then tied it for Boston with 67 seconds left in the second.

The game stayed knotted until Lucic, 19, backhanded a rebound past Johan Hedberg. Marc Savard added an empty-net goal.

Boston had lost six straight meetings with Atlanta.
