NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Brian Gionta scored in a shootout Sunday to give the New Jersey Devils their seventh straight win, a 3-2 decision over Atlanta.

Gionta placed a backhand shot out of the reach of diving Atlanta goalie Johan Hedberg.

Sergei Brylin and John Madden also scored for New Jersey and Martin Brodeur had 23 stops in his 12th win of the season.

Ilya Kovalchuk notched his league-leading 22nd goal for the Thrashers, who have lost four of five. Todd
