Both sides could muster only four points in overtime before West hit a jumper from just outside the lane for the game's final points. Gay's turnaround jumper as time expired hit the side of the rim.

Chris Paul scored 28 points and had 13 assists for the Hornets, who have won four in a row and equaled the best start in franchise history at 8-2. West made 17-of-29 shots from the floor.

Memphis lost for the fourth time in five games, despite a career-best 28 points from Juan Carlos Navarro, who hit eight three-pointers. Gay and Pau Gasol both scored 20.
