NHL: N.Y. Rangers 3, Toronto 2 (SO)

TORONTO, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Marcel Hossa scored the game-winning shootout goal Saturday night, as the New York Rangers beat Toronto, 3-2.

The contest was tied, 2-2, after regulation, as New York's Brendan Shanahan and Sean Avery both scored once, and Buffalo's Alexei Ponikarovsky scored twice -- with his second tally at 18:54 of the second setting up the overtime, as there was no scoring in the third.

A scoreless overtime produced the shootout.

Avery and Shanahan had one assist each, and goaltender Stephen Valiquette stopped 32-of-34 shots in regulation and two in the shootout, as the Rangers won for the sixth time in their last seven games.

Goalie Vesa Toskala made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Maple Leafs, who have lost two of their last three games and four of six overall.

On the power play, both teams went 0-for-4.
