NBA: Portland 93, New Orleans 90

PORTLAND, Ore., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Martell Webster and Jarrett Jack both scored 20 points Wednesday and Portland held on in its home opener to defeat New Orleans 93-90.

The Trail Blazers won for the first time in four tries this season, while New Orleans lost for the first time in five outings. The 4-0 start was the Hornets' best ever.

Portland overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring New Orleans 32-15 in the third quarter.

The Hornets closed within a point with 4:20 remaining, but could never take the lead in the fourth quarter.

Jack made three free throws in the final 15 seconds, giving Portland a six-point advantage, and Bobby Jackson hit a three-pointer for New Orleans as time expired to account for the final margin.

David West led New Orleans with 34 points and Chris Paul had 18.
