Maddux reported re-signing with Padres

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- The San Diego Padres reportedly have re-signed starting pitcher Greg Maddux to a one-year deal worth $10 million.

Maddux, who signed with San Diego prior to last season, held a one-year player option for $8.75 million and the Padres held a team option for $11 million. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the $10 million contract matches Maddux's deal from his first season with the Padres.

Maddux went 14-11 with a 4.14 ERA in his first season with San Diego in 2007. He struck out 104 and walked only 25 in 198 innings over 34 starts. At one point of the campaign, the right-hander went 59 2/3 innings without walking a batter, equaling the second-longest such streak of his career. In 2001, he set a National League record by going 72 1/3 innings without a walk.

For his career, Maddux has a record of 347-214 with an ERA of 3.11. His win total is ninth all-time, seven behind Roger Clemens, whose status for next season is uncertain..
