Nadal leads Paris Masters winners

PARIS, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Rafael Nadal was among Friday’s quarterfinal winners at the Paris Masters Tennis Tournament.

The world's No. 2 men's tennis player easily beat unseeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny, 6-4, 6-2.

"Especially today, I play very good," Nadal said as he seeks his seventh title this season. "I'm very happy, not totally for the victory, no, but very happy for play very good tennis today."

He has yet to lose a set in two matches in his first appearance at this hard-court event, and is its highest remaining seed.

Elsewhere, unseeded Argentine David Nalbandian topped No. 5 seed David Ferrer of Spain, 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 6-2; 10th-seeded Frenchmen Richard Gasquet beat No. 15 Andy Murray of Scotland, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4; and non-seed but defending champion Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus downed eighth-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo, 6-4, 6-4.

The loss cost Murray as chance to play in the season-ending event in Shanghai.

In Saturday’s semis, Nalbandian meets Gasquet, while Nadal faces Baghdatis.
