NHL: Florida 3, New Jersey 0

SUNRISE, Fla., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Tomas Vokoun recorded his first shutout of the season Thursday night, as the Florida Panthers blanked New Jersey, 3-0.

The only goal Vokoun needed came from Rostislav Olesz at 14:48 of the first period.

Olli Jokinen and Nathan Horton added power-play goals in the second, while Jozef Stumpel and Cory Murphy had two assists apiece, as the Panthers snapped a season-opening three-game losing streak.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur gave up three goals on 31 Florida shots.

The Panthers scored the first goal for the first time in four games in the new season.

On the power play, Florida went 2-for-7, and New Jersey was scoreless on five chances.
