TIMONIUM, Md., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Loren Roberts birdied four of the first six holes Thursday and shot a 3-under 67 that put him in a five-way tie after one round of the Senior Players Championship.

Walter Hall, Mark Wiebe, R.W. Eaks and Scott Hoch joined Roberts at the top on a day in which play was twice halted by fog.

"You can make some birdies early on this golf course," Roberts said. "Starting with No. 8, there isn't an easy hole on the golf course."

The scores reflected that with the five co-leaders combining to shoot 13-under on the front nine of the Baltimore Country Club's East Course.

Fred Funk, Nick Price, Danny Edwards, Dana Quigley and Chip Beck were at 68 while Jay Haas, Hale Irwin and Tom Watson shot 69.
