MLB: Texas 16, LA Angels 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Sammy Sosa was the first of five players to hit a home run Wednesday afternoon as the Texas Rangers routed the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 16-2.

Sosa's 21st homer of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom the first, helped Texas build an early 6-0 lead.

Later, Texas’ Nelson Cruz hit a two-run homer in the third, followed by a solo shot by Gerald Laird in the fourth, Travis Metcalf’s two-run homer in the sixth, and Hank Blalock’s three-run home run in the seventh.

Michael Young and Jason Botts had three hits apiece, three players had two, and six players had two RBI as the Rangers swept a three-game series from the Angels for the first time in six years.

With his three hits, Young surpassed the 200-hit plateau for the fifth straight season.

The winner pitcher was John Rheindecker (4-3).

Both Angels’ run scored on fifth inning sacrifice flies by Erick Aybar and Maicer Izturis.

The loser was Joe Sanders (8-5).
