MLB: Oakland 11, Texas 9

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Nick Swisher finally put Oakland in front for good with a sixth-inning homer Friday night as the Athletics won a wild, 11-9 decision over Texas.

Oakland came back from a six-run deficit and overcame a five RBI night by the Rangers' Sammy Sosa.

Texas scored six times in the third, but Oakland cut the deficit to 6-2 in the bottom half of the inning. The Athletics then scored seven times in the fifth, with Jack Cust driving in two of the runs with a single.

Two more runs scored in that inning on a throwing error by catcher Gerald Laird.

Sosa, who had a two-run single in the third, hit a three-run homer in the sixth to tie the game at 9-9. But Swisher put the A's back in front in the bottom half with his homer off John Rheinecker (2-2), and Kurt Suzuki singled home another run later in the inning.

The win went to Andrew Brown, the fourth of six Oakland pitchers. He struck out two of the four men he faced.
