KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Jason Larue drove in the game's lone run Thursday afternoon with a third-inning sacrifice fly, as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins, 1-0.

The sac fly scored Tony F. Pena, who began the inning with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Joey Gathright.

Winning pitcher Kyle Davies (1-0) -- acquired from Atlanta for Octavio Dotel before the July 31 trading deadline -- gave up three hits in 6 2/3 innings, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Davies gave up Alex Rodriguez' 500th career homer in his most recent start, last Saturday.

Relievers Zach Greinke and Jimmy Gobble combined for one scoreless inning and Joakim Soria retired the game's final four batters to earn his 12th save this season.

Alexi Casilla had two of Minnesota's four hits.

Losing pitcher Matt Garza (1-3) surrendered just one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings, with no walks and six strikeouts.
