MLB: Minnesota 8, Detroit 5

DETROIT, June 30 (UPI) -- Michael Cuddyer hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning Saturday as the Minnesota Twins beat the Detroit Tigers, 8-5.

Lew Ford also homered for the Twins, who won their third straight. Jason Bartlett had two hits and an RBI and scored a run for Detroit.

Curtis Granderson, Marcus Thames and Ivan Rodriguez each homered for the Tigers. Magglio Ordonez was 0-for-4 to end a 15-game hitting streak.

Minnesota rookie Kevin Slowey (3-0), called up to the majors early in June, allowed four runs on nine hits, with a walk and two strikeouts over six innings.

Joe Nathan pitched a perfect ninth for his 16th save of the season.

Detroit's Andrew Miller (3-2), in his second year in the majors after making eight appearances for the Tigers in 2006, gave up six runs on six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts over five innings.
