Rain fell after the second practice session at the Richmond International Raceway, but qualifying would have still been conducted had not another storm hit the track.

The lineup will be based on the standings in the season-long points race.

Starting alongside Franchitti will be teammate Tony Kanaan, who was quickest in practice with a lap of 15.6093 seconds (172.974 mph).

Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon will be on the second row.
