NHL: Detroit 4, San Jose 1

DETROIT, May 5 (UPI) -- Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and two assists Saturday afternoon as Detroit beat San Jose, 4-1, in Game Five of the NHL Western Conference semifinals.

The victory gave Detroit a 3-2 lead.

Datsyuk scored the go-ahead goal in the second period.

Henrik Zettenburg, Mikael Samuelsson and Tomas Holmstrom (power play) also each scored once, and Dominik Hasek stopped 23 of 24 shots for the Red Wings, who can close out the series with a victory in Game Six at San Jose Monday night.

Marcel Goc scored San Jose's lone goal at 4:53 of the first period after assists by Mike Grier and Kyle McLaren, while goaltender Evgeni Nabokov was beaten four times on 33 shots.

San Jose's Bill Guerin missed the game after leaving Game Four when he was hit in the face with the puck.
