MLB: Detroit 7, Kansas City 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 5 (UPI) -- Craig Monroe hit a two-run single in the eighth inning Saturday night to give the Detroit Tigers a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Monroe had two hits, including an RBI double, for the Tigers, who have won six straight, the longest current streak in the majors.

Magglio Ordonez had two hits, including a solo homer, with two RBI and two runs scored for Detroit.

Detroit starter Mike Maroth allowed seven hits and five runs with four walks in 5 2/3 innings. Jose Mesa (1-1) got the win, recording the final out of the seventh inning.

Mike Sweeney, Esteban German and Jason LaRue homered for Kansas City.

Odalis Perez allowed seven hits and four runs with two walks over six innings.

Brandon Duckworth (0-2) got the loss, giving up two runs on one hit while walking one in one-third of an inning.
