NHL: Vancouver 4, Dallas 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 24 (UPI) -- Trevor Linden's third-period goal propelled Vancouver to a 4-1 series-clinching victory Monday over Dallas in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Marty Turco, who had shut out Vancouver in the previous two games, helped the Stars carry a 1-0 lead into the second period. But Dallas committed 11 penalties and the Canucks' first two goals came on the power play.

Henrik Sedin had a goal and an assist, while Taylor Pyatt and Bryan Smolinski added empty-net tallies for the Canucks, who will face the Ducks in the conference semifinals, which start Wednesday in Anaheim. Detroit will take on San Jose in the other West semifinal series.

Roberto Luongo made 19 saves for Vancouver, while Turco made 28 stops.

Joel Lundqvist scored for the Stars, who nearly rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the series, but were eliminated in the first round for a third straight postseason.
