Nadal to miss Davis Cup match against U.S.

MADRID, March 27 (UPI) -- World No. 2 Rafael Nadal will miss next week's Davis Cup quarterfinal against the United States in North Carolina because of a foot injury.

Nadal had been expected to lead the Spanish team against the Americans in the April 6-9 series of matches in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Spanish team will now include world No. 6 Tommy Robredo and 14th-ranked David Ferrer and the doubles team of Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco.

The U.S. team is even higher rated with third-ranked Andy Roddick and world No. 8 James Blake scheduled for singles and the top-rated doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan on the roster.

The winner of the Spain-United States match advances to the Davis Cup semifinals Sept. 21-23 against the winner of a Sweden-Argentina pairing. The 2007 Davis Cup finals are scheduled for Nov. 30-Dec.2.
