Nadal heads into Chennai semifinals

CHENNAI, India, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Rafael Nadal used a straight-set victory Friday to move into the semifinals of the Chennai Open tennis tournament in India.

Nadal, from Spain, was a 6-3, 6-2 quarterfinal winner over Italian Davide Sanguinetti. Nadal dominated throughout Friday's match, losing just six points -- three on double faults -- while serving.

He faces Belgian Xavier Malisse in Saturday's semifinals. The third-seeded Malisse was pushed to a third set Friday, but won it 6-0 to defeat Frenchman Fabrice Santoro.

The other semifinal Saturday sends Spain's Carlos Moya, who won at Chennai in 2004 and 2005, against Austrian Stefan Koubek. Moya used a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Croat Ivo Karlovic to move out of the quarterfinals while Koubek topped Frenchman Julien Benneteau, 6-1, 6-2.
