NFL: New England 24, NY Jets 17

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Tedy Bruschi intercepted Chad Pennington with five seconds left Sunday to halt a last-minute New York drive as the New England Patriots beat the Jets, 24-17.

Tom Brady completed 15-of-29 passes for 220 yards with a touchdown and an interception for New England (2-0), which nearly wasted a 24-0 lead before beating the Jets for a seventh straight time.

First-year New York Coach Eric Mangini spent the last six years serving under Bill Belichick in New England.

New York had just 51 yards on the ground, compared to 147 yards for New England. The Jets failed to get a first down rushing.

Corey Dillon rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown, while rookie Laurence Maroney ran for 65 yards and another score for the Patriots.

Chad Pennington threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns against the one interception, completing 22-of-37 passes.
