MLB: Oakland 8, Tampa Bay 6

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Nick Swisher hit a grand slam and Frank Thomas was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI Friday to lead the Oakland Athletics past Tampa Bay, 8-6.

Mark Ellis and Jay Payton went 2-for-5 for the Athletics, who have won two straight and seven of their last 10 games.

Rocky Baldelli had three hits and scored twice for the Devil Rays, who have lost three of their last five games.

Dan Haren (13-11) got the win, scattering six runs -- four earned -- on 10 hits in six-plus innings. Huston Street, who was activated from the 15-day disabled list prior to the game, earned his 30th save of the season.

James Shields (6-7) allowed six runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings in the loss.
