Stenson wins BMW playoff at Munich

MUNICH, Germany, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Sweden's Henrik Stenson Sunday captured the European Tour's BMW International Golf Tournament in Munich, Germany, on the first playoff hole.

The 30-year-old Stenson beat South Africa's Retief Goosen and Padraig Harrington of Ireland by making an eagle.

All three players had four-round regulation scores of 15-under-par 273.

In the final round, Stenson shot 4-under 68, Harrington 3-under 69 and Goosen shot 5-under 67.

In the stunning finish, Stenson also made a two-putt birdie at the 18th hole.

"It was great to be in contention," Stenson said. "It's been a while. Sometimes you need the breaks like that and it certainly feels good right now."

Countryman Martin Erlandsson (70), who was the leader after the first round, tied for fourth place with 2005 champion David Howell of England at 4-under 274.

England's Luke Donald (67) and Colin Montgomerie (71) of Scotland tied for sixth at 13-under 275.
