MLB: Minnesota 3, Kansas City 1

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Johan Santana scattered a run and five hits over seven innings Thursday afternoon as Minnesota beat the Kansas City Royals, 3-1.

Designated hitter Rondell White hit a solo home run in the second inning; Jason Bartlett stole second and third base in the eighth inning and scored on a throwing error by Kansas City catcher John Buck; and a run scored on a double play groundout by Torii Hunter as the Twins broke a three-game losing streak.

Santana (16-5) walked one and struck out 11 batters.

Joe Nathan earned his 28th save.

Estaban German hit a solo homer in the top of the sixth for the only run and had two of the five hits for the Royals.

Losing pitcher Jorge de la Rosa (1-2) surrendered two runs and six hits in five innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
