HARRISON, N.Y., June 8 (UPI) -- Adam Scott shot 6-under 65 Thursday and has the first round lead at the Barclay's Classic at Harrison, N.Y.
He is one-shot better than David Howell and Billy Andrade.
"The softer golf courses get easier when they play that way," Scott said. "Although I think they took that into consideration when they were cutting the pins because there were some very tricky pins out there."
On a tightly packed leader-board, Fredrik Jacobson is 4-under 67, and six players -- including Tom Lehman and David Toms -- finished 3-under 68. Nine players -- including Mike Weir, Brandt Jobe and Paul Azinger -- shot 2-under 69, and 14 others are 1-under 70.
The last group includes Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh and Brad Faxon.
Defending champion Padraig Harrington opened with a 3-over 74.
Harrington beat Jim Furyk in a playoff in 2005 with a 65-foot eagle putt at the 18th hole.
