MLB: Philadelphia 10, Boston 5

PHILADELPHIA, May 21 (UPI) -- Bobby Abreu went 3-for-3 with five RBI Sunday as the Philadelphia Phillies beat Boston, 10-5, avoiding a three-game sweep.

Abreu hit a home run and tripled, and Ryan Howard went 2-for-5 and slammed his 14th home run of the season for the Phillies, who snapped a season-high five-game losing streak.

Chase Utley went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Philadelphia, which defeated Boston for the first time in seven tries.

Cory Lidle (4-4) started for the Phillies and got the win, allowing three runs on five hits, six strikeouts and two walks over six innings.

Starter Lenny DiNardo (1-2) lasted only two-plus innings for Boston and was worked over for four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out two.

Mike Lowell went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, and Kevin Youkilis also went deep for the Red Sox, who had a two-game winning streak broken.
