MLB: Washington 6, New York Mets 2

NEW YORK, May 2 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer and Michael O'Connor pitched seven innings Tuesday as Washington beat the New York Mets, 6-2.

O'Connor (1-1) earned his first big league win as he allowed just one run on two hits while striking out six and walking two.

Damian Jackson also hit a two-run homer and Marlon Byrd went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Carlos Beltran homered and Paul Lo Duca got the only two other hits for the Mets, who have lost two of their last three games.

John Maine (0-1) suffered the loss as he allowed four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings in his Mets debut.
